IPTV Smarters Pro: Complete Setup and Settings Guide (2026)

IPTV Smarters Pro main menu interface with Live TV, Movies, Series, TV Guide, and Catch Up tiles on a TV screen, the complete setup and settings guide for IPTV Smarters Pro in Canada for 2026

IPTV Smarters Pro is the app most Canadian IPTV subscribers end up using, and there's a reason for that. It runs on every platform that matters (Android, Fire TV, iOS, Apple TV, Windows, Mac), the interface looks like a regular TV app instead of a media player, and connecting a subscription takes about ninety seconds once you know what you're doing.

This guide walks through the whole thing: how to install it, how to load your IPTV subscription, the settings worth changing, and the few quirks that catch people the first week.

If you already installed it through one of our device guides (Firestick, Apple TV) and just want help with a specific setting, jump to the section you need. Otherwise, the start is a clean walkthrough from zero.

What IPTV Smarters Pro is, and what it isn't

IPTV Smarters Pro is a free media player app. It doesn't come with channels or a subscription. It's the player. You plug in credentials from an IPTV provider and the app loads whatever channels that provider gives you.

A lot of new users get confused on this point. They install Smarters expecting to see channels, find an empty screen, and assume the app is broken. It's not broken. It's waiting for you to point it at your subscription.

That's the whole concept. The app handles the playback, the EPG, the channel list, and the on-screen controls. Your provider supplies everything you watch.

Which devices it runs on

IPTV Smarters Pro running on different devices including Firestick, Android TV, Apple TV, iPhone, Windows, and Mac, the cross-platform IPTV Smarters Pro setup options for Canada

The app exists on basically every platform a normal person owns.

On Android phones and Android TV, it's on the Play Store as IPTV Smarters Pro. Just install it.

On Fire TV (Firestick, Fire TV Cube), it's not in the Amazon Appstore, so you install it through the Downloader app the same way we covered in the Firestick guide. The download URL is www.iptvsmarters.com/download.

On iPhone and iPad, it's on the App Store under the name Smarters Player Lite. The "Pro" branding is dropped on iOS due to Apple's app naming rules, but it's the same app.

On Apple TV, it's also called Smarters Player Lite. Same situation.

On Windows and Mac, you can download a desktop version from iptvsmarters.com. It's less polished than the mobile and TV versions, but it works.

The settings and screens we cover below are slightly different across platforms but the core idea is the same on all of them. Most people will be using it on a Firestick, an Android box, or an Apple TV. We'll mostly use the Firestick/Android TV interface for screenshots and menu names since that's what most readers will see.

What you need before you start

A subscription. We'll assume you have one (if not, our plans are here). After signing up you'll receive a welcome email with either Xtream Codes credentials (server URL, username, password) or an M3U URL. Either format works.

A device running the app. Install IPTV Smarters Pro on whatever you're using before continuing.

That's it.

Step 1: First launch

IPTV Smarters Pro first launch screen showing options to add a new user with Xtream Codes API or playlist file URL, the initial IPTV Smarters Pro setup step for Canada

Open the app. The first time it runs, you'll see Terms of Service. Agree.

Next screen asks you to add a new user. There are two main options visible:

  • Load Your Playlist or File/URL. Use this if your provider gave you a single M3U link.
  • Login with Xtream Codes API. Use this if your provider gave you username, password, and server URL.

A few providers also offer the Login with Stalker Portal option, which is for a different kind of subscription format. Most won't need this.

Pick whichever matches what your provider sent you. If you're not sure, check your welcome email. Xtream Codes is by far the most common.

Step 2: Add your subscription (Xtream Codes method)

For Xtream Codes, you'll see four fields:

Any Name. This is just a label for you. Type whatever you want. "Main", "Living room", "My subscription". Doesn't matter, it's only displayed in the app.

Username. Copy this exactly from your welcome email. Case matters. No spaces.

Password. Same as username. Copy it exactly.

URL. The server URL from your email. It usually looks like http://line.example.com:8080 or similar. Include the http:// at the front and the port number at the end. If your email gave it to you without the http://, add it yourself. The app expects the full URL.

Hit Add User. The app will connect, pull your channel list, and download your EPG (program guide). First load can take thirty seconds to two minutes. After that, the channels and guide cache locally and load instantly.

Step 3: Add your subscription (M3U method)

If your provider sent you an M3U link instead of credentials, the process is slightly different.

Tap Load Your Playlist or File/URL. You'll see a screen asking for:

Any Name. Label for you, anything works.

File/URL. Paste the M3U URL from your welcome email. It's usually a long link that includes your credentials in it. Paste the whole thing.

There's also an EPG URL field. If your provider gave you a separate XMLTV URL for the program guide, paste it there. If they didn't, leave it blank and the guide will work from whatever's embedded in the M3U.

Hit Add User and it'll load the same way as Xtream Codes does.

Step 4: Tour the main interface

IPTV Smarters Pro main menu with Live TV, Movies, Series, TV Guide, and Catch Up sections, the main interface tour for IPTV Smarters Pro setup in Canada

Once your subscription loads, you'll see the main menu. There are five main sections:

Live TV. Your channel list, organized by category (sports, entertainment, news, etc., depending on how your provider categorized them).

Movies. On-demand films, if your subscription includes VOD.

Series. On-demand TV shows, same condition.

TV Guide. The full EPG grid showing what's playing now and what's coming up across all your channels.

Catch Up. If your provider supports it, lets you watch programs from earlier in the day. Not every subscription includes catch-up. Don't worry if this section is empty.

The main menu is where you'll spend most of your time. Live TV is what 90% of people use.

Step 5: Watching channels

Click into Live TV. You'll see categories on the left and channels on the right. Click a category, scroll through channels, click one to watch.

The on-screen controls are pretty intuitive:

  • Press OK on the remote (or tap the screen on mobile) to bring up the channel info bar
  • Up/down arrows flip channels
  • Left/right arrows show the mini EPG for the current channel. What's on now, what's coming up
  • The menu/options button brings up playback settings (audio track, subtitles, video aspect)

Press OK twice to bring up the full EPG grid while watching. You can scroll through other channels' guides without leaving your current channel.

Step 6: Settings worth changing

IPTV Smarters Pro settings screen with Player Settings, General Settings, EPG Settings, and Parental Control sections, the settings worth changing for IPTV Smarters Pro in Canada

This is where the app goes from "okay" to "actually good." A few defaults are not what most people want.

In Settings, Player Settings:

Default Player. Set this based on your device. On Fire TV and most Android boxes, Native or Built-in Player uses the least CPU and runs smoothest. If you get audio sync issues or stuttering, try MX Player or IJK Player instead. On phones, MX Player is usually best if you have it installed.

Stream Format. For both Live and VOD, set to HLS if your provider supports it. If they don't, leave on TS. Email your provider's support if you're not sure. HLS generally gives better seek control on VOD.

In Settings, General Settings:

Auto Start at Boot. Turn this on. When you power on the device, the app launches automatically and you skip the home screen.

Default Page on Start. Set this to Live TV so you go straight to channels instead of the main menu.

Show Channel Logos. On. Makes the channel list way easier to scan.

In Settings, EPG Settings:

IPTV Smarters Pro EPG Time Shift and EPG Refresh settings panel, the electronic program guide configuration for IPTV Smarters Pro in Canada

EPG Time Shift. Leave at 0 unless your guide is off by an hour or more. If it is off, this is where you fix it. Set it to whatever offset matches your timezone difference from the provider's source.

EPG Refresh. Every 6 to 12 hours is fine. Daily is the bare minimum.

In Settings, Parental Control, set a PIN if kids will use the device. You can also hide adult categories here.

In Settings, Language, pick whichever language you want the app interface in. Doesn't change the channels themselves.

Step 7: Favorites, the feature most people don't know about

Smarters lets you mark channels as favorites and create a custom favorites list. This is way more useful than scrolling through 1,500 channels every time you want to watch something.

To mark a favorite: hover on a channel in the list, press the menu/options button, pick Add to Favorites. Do this for every channel you actually watch.

To view your favorites: in the Live TV section, look for the Favourites category at the top of the category list. All your starred channels live there.

You can also set Favourites as the default category in Settings, Live TV, Default Category so the app opens directly to your starred channels every time.

For most people, a list of fifteen to thirty favorites covers everything they actually watch. Build that list once and the app becomes drastically easier to use.

Step 8: Multiple subscriptions in one app

If you have more than one subscription (a friend's, a backup, whatever), Smarters lets you load up to ten in the same app and switch between them.

To add a second one: go to Settings, Multi-User Mode, Add User. Walk through the same Xtream Codes or M3U setup as before, with a different name.

To switch: open Settings, go to Switch Users, pick whichever one you want active.

Most people only ever have one, but this is useful if you're testing a new provider before canceling an old one.

What buffering means in Smarters and how to fix it

Same playbook as any other IPTV app: buffering is almost always a network issue, not an app issue.

Run a speed test on the device. If you're getting under 20 Mbps next to your TV at peak hours, fix the network first. Move the router, add a mesh node, or switch to Ethernet.

If your speed test looks healthy and you're still buffering, change the playback engine in Settings, Player Settings. Native, MX Player, and IJK Player all handle streams slightly differently. One of them will be smoother for your specific provider.

If only certain channels buffer and the rest of your service is fine, it's a server-side issue. Wait, retry, contact provider support.

If everything buffers all the time and your network tests fine, try clearing the app's cache: Settings, General Settings, Clear Cache. This sometimes fixes weird playback issues after long uptimes.

Common problems and quick fixes

IPTV Smarters Pro common problems including invalid credentials, channels not playing, and empty EPG with corresponding quick fixes, the troubleshooting reference for IPTV Smarters Pro setup in Canada

"Invalid credentials" on first setup. You mistyped the username, password, or URL. Most common: missing http:// in front of the server URL, or extra spaces copied from the email.

Channels load but nothing plays. Switch the playback engine. Native to MX Player, or MX Player to IJK. Whatever you're on, try a different one.

EPG is empty or wrong. Refresh it in Settings, EPG Settings, Refresh EPG Now. If still empty, your provider might not be sending EPG data, or it's coming from a separate XMLTV URL you need to add manually.

App crashes on startup. Reinstall it. This sounds like a copout but it works ninety percent of the time. Your settings will reset, so you'll have to re-add your subscription, but that takes a minute.

Subscription expired or stopped working. Log into your provider's customer portal to check status, or contact their support. The app can't fix a subscription issue at the provider end.

When you'd switch from Smarters to something else

Most people who use Smarters stick with it long-term because it works and it's familiar. The two reasons to consider switching:

You want a faster, cleaner interface. TiviMate is the upgrade. It has a more polished design, faster guide scrolling, and picture-in-picture preview. Only available on Android-based devices. The free version is enough for most users.

You want a more "Apple"-feeling experience on Apple TV. iPlayTV (paid, around $5) feels more native on Apple TV than Smarters Player Lite does. If you're an Apple TV person who notices interface polish, the upgrade is worth the few dollars.

For everyone else, Smarters does the job and there's no reason to change.

What good looks like once it's all set up

You power on the device, the app launches automatically, and it opens directly to your favorites list. Twenty channels you actually watch, in a clean grid with logos and current program info. Click one, press play, you're watching. The EPG is up to date. Switching channels is instant. The remote does what you'd expect.

Setup takes fifteen minutes once. After that, you don't think about the app at all. You just watch TV.

If you run into anything our support team can help with, we're here. For most people, this guide covers everything you'll ever need.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I set up IPTV Smarters Pro?

Install IPTV Smarters Pro from your device's app store or via Downloader on Fire TV. Open the app and pick Login with Xtream Codes API. Enter the name, username, password, and server URL from your provider's welcome email, then tap Add User to load your channels and program guide.

Is IPTV Smarters Pro free?

Yes. The app itself is free on every platform it runs on. It's a media player, not a content service. You still need a paid IPTV subscription to load into it. The app handles playback, EPG, channel list, and on-screen controls. Your provider supplies everything you watch.

Why are my channels not loading in IPTV Smarters Pro?

Three common causes: you mistyped the username, password, or server URL during setup (the most frequent issue); your IPTV subscription expired; or your provider's server is temporarily down. Check your welcome email and re-enter credentials carefully. The server URL must include http:// or https:// at the front and the port number at the end.

Should I use IPTV Smarters Pro or TiviMate?

Use IPTV Smarters Pro if you want maximum platform support: it runs on every device that matters, including iPhone, Apple TV, Windows, and Mac. Use TiviMate if you want a more polished interface and faster guide scrolling, and you're on an Android-based device. Both work well for live IPTV. Smarters has more features. TiviMate is more focused.
